Alone Across the Arctic
Just read Alone Across the Arctic by Pam Flowers. It is phenomenal - about her 2500 mile journey across the Arctic from Alaska to Repulse Bay Canada - It took her 15 months! She raised sled dogs that became her family - she relies on them (Douggie) is the lead dog to guide the sled in white outs and when there isn't a path. There are lots of blizzards, delays and frustration as well as joy, wonder and triumphs. I couldn't put it down! What courage and determination to attempt and complete a feat like that. She based her adventure on an expedition done in 1925. Each of her dogs, who you meet personally in the book, has a special place in the team. Pam is going to be at Butterfly Books on Tuesday, April 1st at 6:00 pm. Don't miss meeting this extraordinary woman.
